With Oracle 10g Plsql sys package "DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER" helps to copy ASM files to filesystem. Scenario: on my rac all database files and backup are stored on ASM disks.
I am doing some recovery tests, and I need to bring particular backuppieces on filesystem. I know the files directories and names, such as:
+FRA_CUSTOMER/CUSTOMER01/AUTOBACKUP/2010_11_08/
Via RMAN i already identified the files I need.

I decided that this time I will not use RMAN, but sys package DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER. I suppose DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER package cna be handy when for example RMAN process are running and you need to copy to filesystem some backupiece right away.
First of all, DBMS_FILE_TRANSFER locates file using oracle directory objects.
So I create the source and target directories.

Now I can execute a plsql block to copy the first file from ASM to filesystem.
