A volte file trasferiti non correttamente da sistemi dos possono presentare caratteri speciali come i famigerati control M ^M.
Nei sistemi HP-UX il comando utile è dos2ux, nei sistemi Sun-Solaris è dos2unix.
La sintassi è la seguente: Esempio:
Il seguente script (che può essere eseguito anche senza essere incorporato in un file), su tutti i file trovati dal comando ls, esegue il comando dos2ux creando un file di appoggio temporaneo, poi rinominato con il nome dei file originari.
